Rangers still in talks with Josh Hamilton
By Richard Durrett
The Rangers and Josh Hamilton's agent, Mike Moye, continue to negotiate the slugger's 2011 contract with the hopes of avoiding an arbitration hearing. When the two sides exchanged figures a few weeks ago, they were $3.3 million apart.
But they still have 15 days to get a deal done before a scheduled hearing for Valentine's Day.
Assistant general manager Thad Levine said the club has been in constant contact with Moye, who also represents Rangers outfielder David Murphy and pitcher Tommy Hunter.
"We have a very good relationship with Mike Moye," Levine said. "I would characterize our communication as very open and strong. Needless to say, we may have slightly different opinions, but we're working through things and with each call we're making progress. We haven't announced a deal yet, so we still have work to do. But I think both sides have talked about things and made progress."
The sides have until right before the hearing starts to reach an agreement. So often in these cases, the key is communication and the Rangers and Hamilton's side are talking in efforts to strike a deal and avoid a hearing. We'll see what happens.
