By Richard Durrett

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers manager Ron Washington said Tuesday that Josh Hamilton won't play the outfield until at least Friday. It could be later in the weekend or next week depending on how Hamilton is doing.

"I don't have any timetable, but when he tells me he's ready to go out there, he's out there," Washington said.

Hamilton was expected to shag balls Tuesday and will get some more outfield work as the week progresses. But the 2010 AL MVP won't play the field Wednesday, and the club is off Thursday before Kansas City comes to town this weekend.

"If it's going to happen soon, it probably won't happen until the weekend," Washington said. "If it happens then, we'll just have to wait and see. But it won't happen before then."

Hamilton returned from a nearly six-week absence Monday and hit a home run on the second pitch he saw, a line-drive long ball to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. They ended up winning 4-0. That was Hamilton's first homer of the season. He and Corey Hart (who hit three homers last night) were the last two 30-homer players from 2010 to hit their first homers in 2011.

Hamilton is once again batting in his familar spot of third in the lineup. He has a nine-game hitting streak dating back before the injury.
