LHP C.J. Wilson given All-Star nod

By Richard Durrett and Travis Brown

Rangers and American League All-Star manager Ron Washington selected starter C.J. Wilson for the 2011 American League All-Star pitching staff staff.

Wilson is 8-3 in his first season as the Rangers' No. 1 pitcher with a 3.14 ERA and 100 strikeouts.

This will be Wilson's first All-Star appearance.

On the TBS telecast, Washington said of all the Rangers, he was most happy for Wilson.

"This guy is a workhorse," Washington said. "He never complains; he battles. He has a workman-like attitude. It seems like every Sunday we play a day game, C.J. is out there in the heat. I thought he was very deserving of it."

Washington added that he wanted Wilson's left-handed arm out of the bullpen for the game, a role Wilson is certainly familiar with from his days as a reliever.

“C. J. is very deserving," Washington said. "There wasn’t a whole lot of choices on left-handed relievers. C. J. had the experience of doing that. He’s deserving, as far as I’m concerned, of being on the All-Star team, so I chose him.”

Shortly after the announcement of his selection, Wilson tweeted (@str8edgeracer) about his upcoming all-star appearance.
I can already feel the huge west coast posse forming for the all-star game!  #PMA   stoked to get the call from Wash. thanks to everyone
