Surgery an option for Julio Borbon's ankle

By Richard Durrett

SEATTLE -- Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said surgery is a possibility to "stabilize" outfielder Julio Borbon's left ankle.

"We're still looking at options and may get a second opinion," Daniels said. "But if he does have surgery, we're looking at six to eight weeks."

The ankle is the same one that Borbon fractured while in college at Tennessee, which is why it's more of a concern than just a routine sprain.

The injury can't help Borbon's trade value. But the Rangers do have Craig Gentry and Endy Chavez, both of whom have helped the club with outfield depth. Leonys Martin is in Triple-A, as well, and Daniels hopes he can stay there for a while.
