OF Julio Borbon has surgery on ankle

By Richard Durrett

Rangers outfielder Julio Borbon underwent what the club termed "left ankle ligament repair surgery" on Monday.

Dr. John Crates, a Tennessee native working in Plano, performed the surgery.

Borbon will resume baseball activities in approximately six weeks. This is the same ankle that Borbon fractured while in college at the University of Tennessee. He injured it sliding into second base in a Triple-A Round Rock game last week.

The 25-year-old was hitting .298 with no homers and 14 RBIs in 32 games (131 at-bats) for the Express. He had 16 stolen bases and was caught four times.

Borbon was another outfielder in the minors that might have received some looks for other teams as part of a possible deadline deal, but the injury certainly won't help his value. He was a supplemental first round pick of the Rangers in 2007.
