Matchup: Derek Holland vs. Ubaldo Jimenez
By Richard Durrett
ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Rangers return home for a six-game homestand against Cleveland and Seattle before heading back out on the road for 10 games. The Indians series starts with LHP Derek Holland facing RHP Ubaldo Jimenez, who is making his Cleveland debut. A quick look at the matchup:
Holland (10-4, 4.14 ERA): The 24-year-old has started to find his stride, posting a 4-0 record and a 1.64 ERA in his last five starts, including three complete-game shutouts. ...That was good enough to get him Rangers player of the month honors as he tries to carry that over to August. ...He tossed a four-hit shutout in the Rangers' 3-0 win on Saturday at Toronto. Holland had one walk and five strikeouts. ...His four complete-game shutouts are one behind Cliff Lee for most in the majors this season and two shy of the club record for a season shared by Fergie Jenkins (six, 1974) and Bert Blyleven (six, 1976). ...Holland is 5-2 with a 5.10 ERA in 11 starts in Arlington this season and has won his last two (no earned runs in 15 innings). ...His only career appearance against the Indians was his first complete-game shutout, a 4-0 Texas win on June 4 in Cleveland.
Jimenez (6-9, 4.86 ERA in Colorado): His last start was an odd one. He went out and pitched one inning for Colorado before the trade became official, giving up four runs on two hits with four walks and two strikeouts against San Diego on July 30. ...In his last full start, Jimenez allowed five runs on eight hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in a 7-0 loss to Arizona. ...Jimenez has never faced Texas. ...He's held left-handed hitters to a .239 average this season, while righties are batting .262.
Hitters: Indians hitters are 6-for-31 (.194) against Holland. The six hits have come from six different players. ...Jack Hannahan and Austin Kearns have four strikeouts combined in nine at-bats off Holland. ...Yorvit Torrealba, who caught Jimenez many times (most recently in 2009), is 2-for-6 with a double against him. ...Endy Chavez is the only other healthy Rangers player that's faced him and he's 2-for-7 with a walk and two strikeouts.
