Josh Hamilton better prepared for this ALDS

By Richard Durrett

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Last year at this time, Josh Hamilton was just trying to get used to playing games again after missing most of September with fractured ribs.

He went into the ALDS against Tampa Bay without his timing where he wanted it and it showed at the plate.

"I think I had one hit in the series," Hamilton said.

Well, actually two. Hamilton was 2-for-18 (.111) with one run scored and one RBIs. He had two walks and six strikeouts. Hamilton, though, found his timing in time for the ALCS and was the MVP of that six-game series win over the Yankees, hitting .350 (7-for-20) with six runs scored, four homers and seven RBIs. He had eight walks and was walked intentionally five times.

This season, Hamilton played all of September and played well. He hit .290 with six homers and 19 RBIs. He had a .905 OPS.

"It's just see pitches," Hamilton said. "I had an idea, now that I've played Tampa enough this year, what they are going to try to accomplish with me at the plate. I didn't hit well, but played defense well. Hopefully, I can do both this year."
