Key stat: Rays win when scoring 5 runs
By Jean-Jacques Taylor
ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Rays, who win with pitching and defense, won for the 31st consecutive time when they score at least five runs.
They have to create offense with the AL’s best running attack and timely hits.
So when they have an offensive explosion, so to speak, they’re impossible to beat as of late.
The Rays extended their winning streak when they score at least five runs to 31 games with a 9-0 win over the Rangers in Game 1 of the ALDS. Texas is 0-4 against the Rays this season when allowing five runs or more.
Guess this is more than coincidence.
The Rays’ popgun attack generated runs with three homers off C.J. Wilson, who had allowed only 16 homers in 223.1 innings this season.
The series is hardly over, but we now know the Rangers have no shot in games the Rays score at least five runs.
