Matt Harrison gets taste of postseason

By Richard Durrett

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Matt Harrison was scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Friday. So instead of doing it in the afternoon, he did it in the ninth inning.

Harrison came into an 8-0 game and gave up a hit and a walk before getting two outs. Mike Gonzalez came in to relieve him and allowed an inherited runner to score.

It was designed to give him a chance to get a taste of the postseason before he pitches in Game 3 or 4.

"It was good for me to get my first experience in the playoffs," Harrison said. "It's something I've never done before, so I got to see what that was like."

Harrison said throwing on Friday doesn't mean he can't pitch in Game 3 on Monday. He said he would have thrown on Friday no matter what. But it wouldn't be surprising if Colby Lewis went Monday and Harrison on Tuesday, if necessary.

"It doesn't matter to me," Harrison said. "I don't care which game. I want to help the team."

Harrison was 14-9 with a 3.39 ERA in 2011, establishing himself as a consistent starter in the rotation. He used not making the postseason roster in 2010 as motivation this season.
