Yoshi Tateyama off DL, optioned to Triple-A

By Richard Durrett

The Texas Rangers announced Saturday that right-handed reliever Yoshinori Tateyama has been reinstated from the disabled list and optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.

That gives the Rangers insurance in the bullpen in the minors and someone with experience that could slip into a middle relief role if needed.

Here's part of the club's release:
Tateyama was placed on the 15-day disabled list April 4, retroactive to March 30, with a low back muscle strain. He was sent to Round rock on a rehab assignment on April 11 and retired all three batters he faced with one strikeouts in his only appearance on Friday vs. Iowa.

Tateyama was 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA and one save in 30 appearances with the Rangers in 2011. He was 1-0 with a 2.14 ERA and one save in 14 games with Round Rock last season. He had pitched the previous 12 seasons with Nippon/Hokkaido in Japan.
