Mike Napoli nearly matches Reggie Jackson
By Richard Durrett
DETROIT -- Texas Rangers catcher Mike Napoli's memorable two-game series in Boston puts him in the same category as Reggie Jackson. How?
Napoli was 3-for-5 with four RBIs on Tuesday and then followed that up with a 3-for-4 night on Wednesday with four RBIs.
According to Elias Sports Bureau, Napoli is the first visiting player to record three hits and four RBIs in consecutive games at Fenway Park since Reggie Jackson did it while playing for the A’s in 1969. Reggie had five hits and 10 RBIs on June 14 and followed that up with a three-hit/four-RBI performance the following night at Fenway.
Napoli is only the third player in Rangers’ franchise history with at least three hits and four RBIs in consecutive games. The previous two Rangers to do that -- Juan Gonzalez and Lee Stevens -- both did it in April of 1998.
