Buzz: Yoshinori Tateyama optioned to Triple-A

By David Collier

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Pitcher Yoshinori Tateyama was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday to make room for pitcher Justin Grimm.

Grimm, who's contract was purchased from Double-A Frisco, is starting Saturday in his major league debut against the Houston Astros.

The Rangers decided to go with a six-man bullpen rather than shorten the bench in optioning Tateyama to the minors. They could have optioned Brandon Snyder, but Washington said he wanted his bench intact.

"(He took it) like a professional," manager Ron Washington said. "Tateyama is a pro. I don’t think any player likes getting optioned out or sent down. But he didn’t break anything. Everything is in order."

Other notes:

* Washington said that the rotation would remain the same as the club heads to San Diego for a three-game series beginning Monday. Matt Harrison will go Monday, Scott Feldman on Tuesday and Yu Darvish on Wednesday.

* Dallas Keuchel will be the Astros' starter for Sunday's series finale, his major league debut. Colby Lewis will get the nod for the Rangers.

* It's 80's weekend in Texas. The Rangers will be wearing special throwback jerseys in Saturday's contest. There have also been 80's themed graphics used on the scoreboard throughout the weekend series.

* Leonys Martin was called up from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday and started immediately in center field. Martin did not record a hit but did hit the ball hard in a couple of at-bats.

"It felt good," Martin said. "I'm very happy for the opportunity. It's a different game (in the big leagues.)"
