Lineups: Michael Young gets day off

By Richard Durrett

Ron Washington answers all the tough questions from ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM's Ben & Skin. Why not bench Michael Young? Why not call up Jurickson Profar? And more!

Listen Listen
Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington is giving Michael Young the day off as the veteran is not in the lineup for tonight's game against the New York Yankees. It's the first time Young has not been in the lineup since June 10. Adrian Beltre will be the third baseman with Mike Olt starting at first base.

Young is hitting .269 with three homers and 45 RBIs this season. He has 24 extra-base hits in 476 plate appearances this season. Only one player has fewer extra-base hits in more at-bats in the AL in 2012. Young's single in Tuesday's game ended an 0-for-12 streak. He is batting .288 in his last 30 games and he remains difficult to strike out. But his power numbers have dropped as well. He has an 84-game home run drought (last home run was May 7 at Baltimore), the longest of his career.
