KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Texas Rangers continue their four-game series with the Kansas City Royals tonight at Kauffman Stadium. The game starts at 7:10 p.m. on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM and FSSW. Here’s a look at the pitching matchup of LHP Matt Harrison vs. RHP Jeremy Guthrie.

Harrison (15-8, 3.30 ERA): The All-Star left-hander has gone to extremes in his last two starts, following a two-hit shutout against Minnesota over eight innings with a subpar outing against Tampa Bay last Wednesday. Harrison allowed 12 hits and seven earned runs over five innings and was rocked by the long ball. The Rays hit three homers off Harrison, marking the first time since April 21, 2010, that Harrison given up three homers in a game. ... In his only start against Kansas City this year, Harrison allowed eight singles and two runs over 6 2/3 innings while picking up a 5-3 win. ... With 174 1/3 innings, Harrison is on pace to reach the 200-inning barometer, which underscores the durability of a modern-day starter.

Guthrie (3-3, 3.86 ERA): The veteran right-hander has been a pleasant addition to a beleaguered starting rotation since the Royals acquired him from Colorado for left-hander Jonathan Sanchez. Guthrie was voted the Royals’ Pitcher of the Month for August after going 3-1 with a 2.33 earned run average in six starts. After getting away from the mile-high altitude, Guthrie has challenged hitters, primarily with a fastball that has late life. He is coming off a 2-1 win over Detroit in which he allowed 10 hits but just the one run over 7 1/3 innings. Guthrie didn’t allow a walk. ... Guthrie had a 22-inning scoreless streak over a three-game stretch in August. ... After a successful appeal of a scoring decision, Guthrie is credited with having a no-hitter through two outs in the eighth on Aug. 19 against the White Sox.

Hitters: Elvis Andrus has fared particularly well against Guthrie, going 7-for-15 (.467) with two doubles. ... Michael Young is 11-for-28 lifetime versus Guthrie (.393). ... Billy Butler is 8-for-12 against Harrison (.667).
