Lineups: Rangers try to avoid sweep

By Taylor Soper / Special to

SEATTLE, – The Rangers will try to avoid a three-game sweep in Sunday’s series finale against the Mariners. Texas has lost two straight for the first time since early last month, but thanks to Oakland’s recent struggles the Rangers remain four games ahead in the AL West race.

Veteran Ryan Dempster takes the mound today. The British Columbia native said he has about 30 friends and family coming out for this afternoon’s tilt.

He’ll hope to get some support from a Texas offense that has scored just three runs in the past two games, including its fifth shutout of the season Saturday night. The Rangers will be up against Jason Vargas, who is looking to win his 15th game of the season.
