ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Rangers and Rays renew their rivalry Monday night when Texas right-hander Alexi Ogando faces Tampa Bay right-hander Jeremy Hellickson. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. on FSSW and ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM/1540 AM.
Ogando (1-0, 0.00): Ogando made a big impression in his first start, pitching 6 1/3 shutout innings at Houston on Wednesday and setting a career high with 10 strikeouts. ... This is his third start since 2011 after working out of the bullpen last season. ... He pitched in four games against the Rays in 2012, allowing a run in 3 2/3 innings. ... Ogando is 0-1 with a 4.82 ERA in eight appearances, including one start, lifetime against Tampa Bay. ... Hellickson (0-0, 7.11 ERA): Hellickson, in his third full year in the big leagues, picked up a no-decision in his first start against Baltimore on Wednesday. The Rays won 8-7 on a home run by Matt Joyce. Hellickson allowed five runs in 6 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits -- including a home run to former Ranger Chris Davis -- and a walk. ... It was the fifth time in 65 career starts that Hellickson has allowed five runs or more in a start. ... Hellickson will be pitching on his 26th birthday, a year after beating the Yankees 3-0 on the day he turned 25. ...
