Rapid Reaction: Rangers 5, Mariners 2
By Todd Wills
The Texas Rangers didn't blink Saturday night against Seattle's Felix Hernandez, scoring three early runs and winning 5-2 over the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field.
Profar gets it going: The Rangers' 20-year-old infielder Jurickson Profar started a three-run second inning against Hernandez with a run-scoring single to right field. Profar finished the game with a 2-for-4 night.
Murphy has a big day: David Murphy remained hot hitting in the No. 2 spot, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs. He had a two-out, two-run double in the second inning to give the Rangers a 3-0 lead on King Felix. Murphy also had a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning to give the Rangers a 5-2 lead.
Holland outduels Felix: Derek Holland bounced back from two so-so outings, allowing two runs in 6⅔ innings as he outpitched Hernandez. Holland had a season-high 10 strikeouts. He had good command of his fastball and also had a good slider.
Martin triples up: Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin had his fourth triple of the season in the sixth inning, one behind the Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout. Martin scored on Murphy's hit for the three-run lead.
Robbie Ross-Tanner Scheppers-Joe Nathan: The back of the Rangers' bullpen finished another game off, allowing one hit in 2⅓ innings. Nathan improved to a perfect 16 for 16 on saves.
Up next: The Rangers go for the sweep Sunday afternoon when rookie Nick Tepesch (3-4, 3.98 ERA) faces Seattle's Hisashi Iwakuma (5-1, 2.37 ERA) at 3:10 p.m. on Fox Sports Southwest and ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM and 1540-AM.
