Matchup: Derek Holland vs. Tyler Lyons

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Rangers open a three-game series in St. Louis as left-hander Derek Holland goes up against Cardinals left-hander Tyler Lyons at 7:15 p.m. on Ch. 21, ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM and ESPN Deportes Dallas 1540 AM.
Holland (5-4, 3.30): Holland has lost consecutive games for the first time since April. ... He hasn't lost three straight games as a starter since May 2010. ... Holland allowed four runs in six innings in a 7-2 loss to Toronto on Sunday. ... He allowed two home runs, including a long ball to a left-handed hitter (Colby Rasmus) for the first time since May 30, 2012. ... Holland has allowed two runs in the first two innings of his 14 starts. ... Holland has allowed eight-plus hits in four straight starts, the first time that has happened to a Texas pitcher since Scott Feldman did it for five straight starts in 2010. ... His control has been outstanding, not walking anyone in nine of his 14 starts. ... Holland was 1-0 with an 0.87 ERA in two starts against the Cardinals in the 2011 World Series ... The Oklahoma State product throws a fastball and changeup, but his best pitch is his curve ball.
