Matchup: Matt Garza vs. Andy Pettitte

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Right-hander Matt Garza makes his Rangers debut Wednesday night against left-hander Andy Pettitte and the New York Yankees at 7:05 p.m. on Fox Sports Southwest, ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM and Deportes 1540 AM.
Garza (6-1, 3.17 in NL): Garza makes his first start for the Rangers after being acquired Monday from the Chicago Cubs for pitcher Justin Grimm and three minor league prospects. ... The 29-year righty hasn't pitched since a 6-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on July 13 at Wrigley Field. ... Garza has won each of his last five starts, the longest single-season winning streak of his career. ... He is 5-0 with a 1.24 ERA in his last six starts since June 16 and has held opponents to a .210 batting average with 38 strikeouts and 10 walks in that span. Garza is 1-4 with a 4.48 ERA in 11 starts against the Yankees, but he hasn't faced New York since 2010. ... Garza is 2-3 with a 6.04 ERA for five career starts at Rangers Ballpark.
Pettitte (7-7, 4.47): Pettitte goes for his 253rd career victory, which would tie him with Carl Hubbell for 43rd on baseball's all-time wins list. ... The 41-year old Pettitte will make his 18th start of the season. ... He lost his last time out against Boston on Friday when he allowed four earned runs and six hits in six innings. Pettitte allowed two home runs, snapping a two-game winning streak. ... He will pitch for the second time against the Rangers this season and the 25th time in his career. He allowed three earned runs in six innings in an 8-5 loss to the Rangers on June 26 at Yankee Stadium. ... He is 11-10 with a 5.21 ERA in 24 starts against the Rangers and has limited the Rangers to three earned runs or less in 14 of those appearances. Pettitte has lost seven of his last 10 decisions to Texas.
Hitters: Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski (9-for-25, 2 RBIs) is one of many Rangers who have had success against Pettitte. The current Rangers are batting .277 with a .353 on-base percentage against the veteran lefty. Robinson Cano (10-for-29, 2 HRs, 6 RBIs) has had good success against Garza.
