Matchup: Derek Holland vs. Hiroki Kuroda

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Rangers and New York finish off a four-game series when left-hander Derek Holland faces off against right-hander Hiroki Kuroda at 1:05 p.m. Thursday afternoon on Fox Sports Southwest, MLB Network and ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM and Deportes 1540 AM.
Holland (8-5, 3.10): Manager Ron Washington pushed back Holland's start a day to insert new trade acquistion Matt Garza into the rotation Wednesday night. ... Holland has been the Rangers' most consistent starter, allowing four earned runs or less in 19 of his 20 starts. ... He was a tough-luck loser in his start Friday night against Baltimore, allowing three earned runs on six hits over eight innings in a 3-1 loss. ... He is 3-1 with a 2.23 ERA over his last five starts. ... Holland currently ranks in the top 10 in the American League in four key pitching categories. He's seventh with 127 strikeouts, eighth with a 3.10 ERA, ninth with 133 2/3 innings and 10th with one complete game.
Kuroda (9-6, 2.65): Kuroda, the Yankees' best starter this season, makes his 21st start. ... He beat Boston in his last start Saturday, allowing two earned runs on five hits in seven innings. ... The 38-year old right-hander is 2-0 with 0.95 ERA for his three starts in July. ... He bears down with runners in scoring position, having allowed only 11 hits in 77 at-bats. ... Kuroda will make his second start against the Rangers and the fifth of his career. He picked up a no-decision June 25 in a 4-3 victory for the Yankees. Kuroda allowed two home runs to Leonys Martin, only the third time the Japanese right-hander has yielded homers to the same batter in a game. ... Kuroda is 1-2 with a 2.60 ERA overall against the Rangers, allowing two earned runs or less in three of the four starts.
Hitters: Rangers hitters are batting .206 against Kuroda. Aside from Martin, Ian Kinsler and A.J. Pierzynski are the only other Rangers who have taken Kuroda deep. Robinson Cano (7-for-21, 1 HR, 5 RBIs) has had success against Holland.
