ARLINGTON, Texas -- Well, here we go. Rangers vs. A's, Round 1.
For Texas, left-hander Derek Holland gets the call against Oakland right-hander Dan Straily at 7:05 p.m. Friday night on Ch. 21 and ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM and 1540-AM.
Holland (9-8, 3.17 ERA): Holland has been great all season, but he's hit a skid of late, losing two consecutive starts and posting a 6.10 ERA in 10 1/3 innings. ... He is winless in six starts, matching the longest drought of his career. ... He allowed a season-high eight runs Saturday against Los Angeles with four of them earned as the Rangers made a season-high four errors. ... Holland has lasted less then six innings in two straight starts after 14 in a row where he pitched at least six. ... Holland lost his most recent start against Oakland on Labor Day, allowing four runs in 4 2/3 innings. ... It was the second shortest outing of his season as he matched a career high with five walks. ... He allowed two home runs, including one to Coco Crisp that hit the left-field foul pole and gave Oakland a 4-2 lead. ... Holland is 1-1 with a 3.44 ERA in three starts against Oakland this season.
Straily (9-7, 4.15): Danny Straily is pitching his best baseball of the season, winning three consecutive starts. ... He shut out Houston for seven innings Saturday. ... He also beat the Rangers and Holland in that Labor Day game last week, allowing two runs in five innings. ... The Rangers have hammered Straily and his slider despite his 2-1 record against them, as he has a 5.14 ERA in four starts against them this season. ... Straily is 5-6 with a 5.21 ERA in night games this season. ... Straily has only had four at-bats against him with the bases loaded this season.
Hitters: Alex Rios (4-for-7, RBI) and A.J. Pierzynski (3-for-7, 1 HR, 3 RBIs) have handled Straily in his brief career. Josh Donaldson (5-for-13, 1 HR, 2 RBIs) and Alberto Callaspo (13-for-39, 1 HR, 4 RBIs) have had success against Holland.
