AL West: A's to sign Scott Kazmir
By Richard Durrett
The Oakland A's, winners of the AL West the last two seasons, are making some changes to their pitching staff with the addition of Scott Kazmir.
Sources told ESPN.com's Jim Bowden and Buster Olney that Kazmir has a two-year agreement with Oakland at $22 million. That was similar to the deal that San Francisco gave Tim Hudson. The A's were reported to be the runner-ups in that deal.
Kazmir rebounded in 2013 with a 10-9 mark and a 4.04 ERA in 29 starts. His velocity was back up from the previous few seasons and he reduced his walks. The move likely means the A's won't be pursuing a deal with Bartolo Colon.
For those curious, Kazmir is 6-4 with a 3.09 ERA in his career against the Rangers. He made one start last year against the Rangers and gave up four runs on eight hits in a loss in June in Arlington.
