Sources confirmed Friday that Fox Sports Southwest's John Rhadigan is the leading candidate to replace Josh Lewin as the Rangers' television play-by-play voice in 2011.

The club has yet to make a final decision.

Lewin, whose contract was not renewed following the 2010 season, had been the Rangers' play-by-play announcer since 2002.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Former Rangers television play-by-play announcer Josh Lewin, whose contract was not renewed as announced by the team on Monday, wrote a fan post over at Lone Star Ball (a great Rangers site if you've never checked it out).

Sometimes relationships just run their course, and it really is as simple as that in this situation. I still love the Rangers organization, and hope they still like me as well… but with different visions of what the broadcast landscape should look like, this really is the best for all concerned.

Unfortunately, I can’t say anything yet about my new horizons as things are still “in development” as they say… but suffice to say I will have some opportunities now to broadcast (both locally and nationally) that fit very well with my philosophy of “informing and entertaining.” This is all going to work out well for everyone, I promise.

Lewin also thanked the fans that tuned in to watch the Rangers the last nine seasons he was on the broadcast:
To all of you who have been so kind to welcome me into your homes each night, I can’t thank you enough. It is such a privilege to be the guy with the microphone, bringing you as close as possible to these wonderful coaches and players and support staff. Y’all have hitched your wagons to a great thing – and it was my distinct pleasure to have been your narrator. Ranger fans are unique in their passion and their warmth – my family and I have appreciated every minute of your attention.

He added that he will always love the Rangers. Again, you can read the whole entry here.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Texas Rangers announced Monday that television play-by-play announcer Josh Lewin will not return for the 2011 season, ending his nine-season run in that role.

Tom Grieve, however, signed a three-year contract extension to stay on in his analyst role on Fox Sports Southwest and TXA21. That means he'll be broadcasting games through the 2013 season.

"After several discussions over the last few months, the Texas Rangers and Josh Lewin have agreed to end their relationship and move ahead in different directions," team president Nolan Ryan said in a release. "As a result, Josh will not be returning as the Rangers television announcer in 2011. We wish Josh the very best for the future."

Lewin also is the play-by-play voice for the San Diego Chargers of the NFL.

The Rangers will begin a search for Lewin's replacement immediately.

"I would like to thank the Rangers for nine wonderful years," Lewin said in the release sent out by the club. "I respect the team's leadership and vision and wish them nothing but the best as well."
