ARLINGTON, Texas -- Don’t look for Ron Washington to summon one of his position players to pitch.

A day after Minnesota’s Ron Gardenhire used first baseman/outfielder Michael Cuddyer to pitch the final inning of Monday’s 20-6 Rangers victory, Washington said it would take a similar circumstance for him to turn to a position player.

“Ron just ran out of pitchers,’’ Washington said. “There wasn’t anything else he could do.’’

In a similar circumstance, Washington said the Rangers could possibly turn to David Murphy and Mitch Moreland. Both have a pitching background.

“But I’m not sure about Moreland,’’ Washington said. “He’d be trying to hit 97 or 98 [mph] on the gun.’’
