Sometimes things are just meant to be. Take Baylor's 6-foot-10 power forward Ekpe Udoh's middle name. It's Friday. It's also his father's first name, but he goes by his middle name, Samuel, which is his father's first name.
"Well," Udoh's father said, "my mom told me I was born on a Friday."
So, Udoh, a junior transfer from Michigan, wears No. 13 in refernce to -- what else? -- the Friday the 13th movies. His teammates appropriately nicknamed him "Nightmare" because that's what he is to opposing defenders and any guard trying to drive his way to the basket.
During a recent home game, a section of the student body wore Friday the 13th "Jason" masks to show their support for a player who is a top candidate for the Big 12's Newcomer of the Year award, and is also moving up the ladder as an NBA Draft prospect.
