DALLAS -- Here's something you don't see every day, a jitterbug of a Mavericks backcourt consisting of 5-foot-11 J.J. Barea and 6-2 Roddy Beaubois.

The rookie Beaubois not only saw a nice bit of action Tuesday for a second consecutive game against Milwaukee, logging 11:49, but he and Barea manned the backcourt for most of their floor time. The new combination had Beaubois playing for Jason Terry and Barea at the point for Jason Kidd.

"No idea," Beaubois said of the potential for the pairing in Tuesday's game, although the two often play together as the second unit during practices. "I have to be ready for anything, so yeah, I think we did good things on the floor. So I think that can be one more option for the future."

Barea entered the game at the 3:06 mark of the first quarter with Beaubois checking in with five seconds left. The pair played the next 7:20 together and helped to extend the Mavs' 28-27 lead after one quarter to 49-43 when Barea sat down with 4:40 left in the half. Beaubois took a seat 30 seconds later.

During the stretch, Beaubois hit two 3-pointers and scored on a driving layup off a pretty feed from Barea. It looked like the two had been playing together for years. Barea also drained a 3-pointer during the sequence off a pass from Beaubois.

"They play well together, they're quick," Terry said. "That's a unit that you say, 'Wow, they just bother the heck out of people.' If you look at them, they're all over the place."

Beaubois scored all eight of his points during the second quarter and had one of his two assists. Barea had three of his seven points and two of his four assists during the stretch. They reunited late in the third quarter for a couple of minutes and helped to stretch a 71-69 lead to 83-77 at the end of the period.

"Yeah, I was surprised," Beaubois said, "but I think we did a good job."
