DALLAS -- Dirk Nowitzki's expects his right thumb to be sore for a while, but he didn't sustain a serious injury.

Nowitzki said he bruised the thumb on his shooting hand a couple of games ago. It got hit again during the third quarter of Wednesday's win over the Golden State Warriors, prompting Nowitzki to go to the bench for a quickie tape job.

The tape apparently didn't bother Dirk too much. He scored nine of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, making all three of his field goal attempts.

"You know something significant happened because he usually doesn't come out of the game for anything like that," coach Rick Carlisle said. "His pain tolerance and will to finish and play through pain is really unusual."

How long will the injury sideline Nowitzki? No games, but ...

"Probably practice tomorrow, I hope," he joked.
