DALLAS -- DeShawn Stevenson nailed a corner 3-pointer late in the first quarter and in a tribute to Jason Terry, who's resting after facial surgery this afternoon, ran back on defense with his torso bent forward and his arms spread -- a la the Jet.

Otherwise, not a terrific first quarter for the Mavs, who trail 26-24. The Mavs have preached defense, but they allowed the Kings to shoot 54.5 percent from the floor after Minnesota topped 50 percent for the game on Wednesday.

Jason Kidd, who played the entire first quarter, leads the Mavs with seven points, while Dirk Nowitzki and Caron Butler each have six.

Beno Udrih is pacing the Kings with nine points, former Rockets forward Carl Landry has eight. Rookie guard Tyreke Evans was held to three points on 1-of-3 shooting. Butler started off on him and Stevenson finished up.
