In less than a week, the UFC will be in Central Texas to provide military personnel in the area with a rare treat; a full UFC MMA fight card. The event, Fight For The Troops 2, will go down Saturday in Fort Hood and will air live on Spike TV. The main goal for the event, which is closed to the public, will be to raise money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes.

With so many military bases in Central and South Texas, it's no surprise that area fighters have been eager to make an impact as well.

In particular, an event titled "Operation Appreciation -- Submissions and MMA Clinic" has been created "to give back to our armed forces and law enforcement through world-class MMA training."

Many of the best Texas-based fighters will be on hand to provide eager soldiers with a solid background in mixed martial arts techniques. Among the instructors at the clinic is current UFC fighter, TJ Waldburger. The Temple-born fighter is 1-0 inside the Octagon and is expected to return to the cage later this spring.

"We had a great time working with the army this summer," Waldburger said. "This [clinic] will be a tremendous opportunity for the guys to work with some good pro fighters and maybe learn something new. Another way to give back."

The training roster also includes Chad Robichaux (undefeated Strikeforce vet), Cleburn Walker (TUF 11 cast-member), Steve Carl (Bellator standout), Joe Christopher (XFL champ) and Chas Skelly (undefeated at 7-0).

Operation Appreciation will take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Grappler’s Lair in Belton and will be free to service members and law enforcement. Admission for the general public is $50.
