NASCAR weekend is just around the corner

October, 27, 2010
The biggest tailgate party in Texas is about to kickoff.

Apparently some people can't wait.

Approximately 40,000 people are planning to camp at Texas Motor Speedway for next Sunday's AAA Texas 500, tailgating their way 24-hours a day until the race on Nov. 7.

And even though the campgrounds don't open until this Saturday at 8 a.m., some people just have to get a jump on the green flag. Campers actually started lining up on the side of the road - Lone Star Circle - on the west side of the Speedway property last Wednesday.

That's right. A full 18 days prior to the huge event.

When the the grounds open this Saturday, approximately 3,000 campers will be scattered around the Speedway's various camp sites. By Thursday, more than 10,000 will be on site enjoying the tailgating parties and by Friday night, 40,000 people will be on hand with thick barbecue smoke in the air, steaks on the grill, gumbo simmering, crawfish boiling and cold beverages in hand. It's an amazing site not to mention favorable aromas everywhere.

But some are already at Texas Motor Speedway. It's time to start the grills!
