Dallas Stars forward Loui Eriksson scored two goals but Sweden lost its opening game at the World Championship, falling 5-4 in a shootout to Norway Saturday.

It’s the first time Norway has defeated Sweden in an IIHF tournament, including the World Championship, Olympics and Under-20 and Under-18 tournaments. Norway was 0-21-1 against Sweden dating back to 1950 prior to Saturday’s win.

Eriksson scored at even strength to give Sweden a 1-0 lead and then scored on the power play to put Sweden up 4-3.

Eriksson was Sweden’s first man up in the shootout, but failed to score. Eriksson, who was named Sweden’s best player in the game, played 20:55, had four shots on goal and was a plus-one.

Stars defenseman Nicklas Grossman played 15:10, registering no points, an even rating and two penalty minutes.

Sweden plays Austria on Monday.

Stars goaltending prospect Jack Campbell, who was added to the Team USA roster on Friday, did not suit up Saturday. Team USA opened the tournament with a 5-1 win over Austria. Team USA plays Norway on Monday.
