Blues honor Brett Hull
Hall of Famer Brett Hull participated in a ceremony in his honor last month here in Dallas. On Wednesday night, St. Louis rolled out the blue carpet for Hull.
The event included a surprise visit from Wayne Gretzky. And the team announced it was team had commissioned a statue of Hull that will go outside the arena sometime during the 2010-11 season.
Part of the St. Louis Post Dispatch story:
- Hull was thankful, telling the crowd "the St. Louis Blues will be indelibly stamped on my heart until the day they bury me in this ground. You've got a world-class organization, led by world-class people, and they are going to lead you to where you want to be, and where we all wanted to be."
During Hull's brief speech, a man in the crowd yelled: "I hate Mike Keenan."
Hull paused to allow the fans to chuckle a bit, and then he thanked others, including former Blues chairman Mike Shanahan, who was in attendance Tuesday.
Hull concluded by saying, "I've been lucky to play with a lot of Hall of Fame players, but in my mind, you fans will always be my No. 1 Hall of Fame team."
Hull never won a Stanley Cup in St. Louis, but he played most of his career there and the city has always loved him.
