About the Stars

The Stars (1-1-0) are coming off a 5-2 loss at Chicago Saturday, which left them with a split of the season opening home-and-home series with the Blackhawks.

“One of the most disappointing things that you can do is to get outworked, and I thought we got outworked a little bit,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “We started good, they got that power play goal and after that I thought we should have had a little more dig in. We didn't get it until the third and by that time it's too late against a real good team."

The Stars were outshot 25-9 through the first two periods and 31-21 for the game.

Kari Lehtonen will start in goal for Dallas.

Injuries: D Nicklas Grossman (groin) and D Adam Pardy (rib) are out.

About the Coyotes

Phoenix (0-1-0) opened its season with a 6-3 loss at San Jose Saturday. The Sharks built a 4-0 lead 28:33 into the game and led 6-1 after two periods.

“We made some mistakes early, we couldn’t handle their pressure and they came at us full bore,” said Coyotes coach Dave Tippett. “They just overwhelmed us for the first two periods. That is something that is very disappointing, the way our group reacted.”

Mike Smith, making his debut in goal for the Coyotes, stopped 40 of 46 shots.

Injuries: D Michal Rozsival (upper body) is day to day.
