The Dallas Stars have acquired left wing wing Eric Nystrom from the Minnesota Wild for future considerations. The acquisition of Nystrom, who has a cap of hit of $1.4 million, will help keep the Dallas Stars over the salary cap floor when the team becomes healthy later this week.

“Eric is a hard-working forward who kills penalties and will help with the depth of our current roster,” Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk said.

Nystrom, a 10th overall pick by Calgary in 2002, has registered 51 points (23 goals, 28 assists) in 286 career NHL games. He had 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists) in 82 games for Minnesota last season.

The 28-year-old Nystrom was placed on waivers by the Wild last week and assigned to the Houston Aeros of the AHL. He was placed on re-entry waivers this week, so he could he could have been claimed by any team for half his $1.4 million cap hit. But the Stars need him at his full cap cost to help stay above the floor.

Nystrom is in the second year of a three-year deal, so he will be under contract with the Stars next season as well.

To make room for Nystrom on the roster the Stars sent Tomas Vincour to the Texas Stars of the AHL.
