There's a reason Brad Richards ranks third in the NHL in assists: Great vision, which he showed on the Stars' first goal of the night.
Loui Eriksson won a puck battle behind the net and fed to Richards to the left of the goal. Richards immediately passed to James Neal in the slot, and Neal slapped a one-timer into the back of the net. The goal came with 16:09 left in the first, and we're now near the midway point.
Richards now has 65 assists for the season, the most for any Stars player since the team relocated to Dallas.
One other note: The Stars wisely put Modano in the starting lineup, and he received a nice ovation from the stands. He hasn't done much in his first few shifts of the game. As expected, he's playing on a line with Benn and Lehtinen.
