The Dallas Stars opened their five-game road trip with a 5-2 loss at San Jose. The Stars have lost five of their last six games on the road. Brenden Morrow and Mike Ribeiro had a goal and assist each for the Stars. Andrew Raycroft played the first two periods and gave up five goals on 25 shots. Richard Bachman played the final period and stopped all 11 shots he faced.
The Sharks scored two goals 15 seconds apart early in the first 1:22 to take a 2-0 lead.
Ryane Clowe stole the puck from Mike Ribeiro in the San Jose end to set up a three-on-two rush and set up Logan Couture, who scored from the slot at the 1:07 mark.
The Sharks made it 2-0 when Justin Braun put a shot net from the point, Andrew Raycroft couldn’t control the rebound and Jamie McGinn got to the loose puck and scored into an open net at the 1:22 mark.
The Stars got on the board with 6:23 left in the period. After taking a cross-ice pass from Steve Ott, Stars captain Brenden Morrow put a shot on net from the right boards and the puck deflected off Mike Ribeiro and into the net.
The Sharks had a great chance to extend their lead early in the second when they got 1:50 of five-on-three power play time, but they couldn’t take advantage.
The Stars tied the game when they cashed in on their second power play of the night. Mike Ribeiro sent a cross-ice pass to Brenden Morrow, who scored off a one-timer from the right circle at the 6:30 mark.
The Stars had a chance to take the lead with their third power play chance just before the midway point of the period, but didn’t score and the Sharks then rattled off three unanswered goals to build a 5-2 lead.
Ryane Clowe scored off the rebound of a Joe Thornton wrap-around at the 11:53 mark to make it a 3-2 game.
After a Thornton faceoff win, Brad Winchester tipped home a Brent Burns point shot at the 13:48 mark to give San Jose a 4-2 lead.
Torrey Mitchell made it 5-2 when he picked off Jamie Benn pass in the Dallas zone and ripped a shot past Andrew Raycroft from the right circle with 2:03 left in the period.
Richard Bachman took over in goal for the Stars in the third and stopped all ten shots he faced. His two best saves came late in the period as denied Mitchell on a two-on-one and Couture on a good look from the slot.
