Jamie Benn excited about All-Star selection

Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn said he is excited about going to his first NHL All-Star Game. Benn was named was to the NHL All-Star Game roster on Thursday.

“It’s pretty cool to get selected to the All-Star game,” Benn said. “It’s my first. I am looking forward to it and it’s going to be an exciting time.”

Benn was one of 42 players selected to play in the game. Six players were voted in by fans and 36 others, including Benn were selected by the league.

“Real good for him,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “We congratulated him this morning and Benny takes everything in stride. It’s real well deserved. He’s an important guy to our team and it’s nice that he gets recognition in the league.”

Captains for the All-Star teams will be announced next week and the All-Star Fantasy Draft will be held January 26 to divide the players into two teams.

NHL All-Star weekend is at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa. The Skills Competition will be held Saturday January 28 and the NHL All-Star Game will be played Sunday January 29.
