Who will be the leaders on this team?

LOS ANGELES -- With the Marty Turco and Mike Modano eras over, it means other leaders must step up. I talked about that with Stars coach Marc Crawford this past weekend.

"The key guy is Brenden Morrow," Crawford said. "He's going to have a larger impact on that group. He's the full leader. His work ethic comes to the forefront and guys feed off that. I think it’s going to give impact to [Stephane] Robidas, [Steve] Ott, hopefully Jere [Lehtinen] comes back because there's a huge place for him and Brad Richards. Those guys will all take a step up.

"The key guy is still Brenden. He’s a great captain. I sense he will give us that great, hard-working, western Canadian mentality that he’s so known for. That’s why Team Canada took him. Some of the younger guys might take a step like Loui Eriksson, Tom Wandell, Jamie Benn and James Neal. As those older people filter out, the younger guys take that much more of a role. Thats how it's supposed to work. They feel like they can say more in the room."

Crawford also mentioned Trevor Daley, Mark Fistric and Nicklas Grossman as players that can also be leaders.

Morrow said Tuesday, after hearing that Modano was not returning to the Stars, that it means the current group has to step up. You can read Morrow's comments here.
