Mike Modano texted that he's at a Tigers game tonight. He's there with several members of Red Wings management after meeting with them during the afternoon.
Mlive.com has some thoughts from Red Wings GM Ken Holland, who did a TV interview before the baseball game. Part of that blog entry:
Holland stated that he and Mike Babcock had spent most of the day with Modano, and as Modano is a local boy and a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer, the Wings believe that Modano has some hockey left in him, and while Modano has to decide whether he's willing to go through the physical preparation required during the off-season to prepare for another NHL season, the Wings would like to have him.
It was Modano who suggested the visit to Detroit, and Babcock came in to Detroit from Saskatchewan to speak with Holland and Modano about his possible role. The Red Wings see Modano as their third-line center...
But Holland stated that, in terms of salary, the dollar amount they're talking about involves fitting Modano in. If he wants to come into Detroit, there's only a certain amount of money they can fit him into without harming the rest of their lineup.
