Just take the win and be happy. No, it was not pretty. Marty Turco wasn't great (there were some tough bounces), and the play was inconsistent (as usual), but the Stars found a way to beat the New York Islanders, 4-3, and get two big points Friday night. That's the bottom line: They got the points and won the game.
Some thoughts from the team:
Coach Marc Crawford:
"I thought we responded to the adversity in the game. Everybody knows Marty let a couple bad ones in today, and there were a few bad bounces out there. Right now, we're a fragile group. I liked the resolve in our team tonight. I thought we had good leadership from Brenden [Morrow], and Brad Richards did a terrific job."
"The best part of our game was that we showed a tremendous amount of resiliency. Sometimes there are things that are out of your control, and it can suck the energy out of your group, and we didn't let it tonight."
Overall: "It's always nice with a win. I think we did a pretty good job today, and we got the two points. We had some mistakes on the goals, but that's how it is
sometimes. We got the win, and that's important."
On finding success on the road: "I think we have to do the same as we do here in this building. Just work hard and get a lot of shots on net and just keep working. It's not easy to get points now, and we have to dig in and try to win some games."
On needing a win after three losses: "I think we're all aware of the situation and how critical it was. There was a lot more desperation, you could see it. But we need to do it again on Sunday.
"We're going to take it. We beat ourselves up pretty good over those last two
games, so any positives we can find, we want to take those out of tonight and
get some good feelings, and try and take it on the road."
On Turco: "He really dug in. A bad bounce, and one he'd probably like to keep under his glove there, but he battled hard and made the saves when he needed to and came up big. There was a scramble, there were lots of pucks that laid around. We've got guys paying the price, getting in front, blocking shots, laying down. It was good to see."
General thoughts: "Obviously, we wanted to get a win for Marty after a couple of tough bounces on him. And there's nothing you can do about some of those. The goals they scored, we obviously kind of did it to ourselves. We thought we were in the game, so we kept pushing and it's a win. Sometimes, when you lose three in a row, you don't
get those wins. You don't get those bounces at the end. And we were fortunate enough to do that."
On finding success on the road: "We've got to take a lot of things out on the road. We've only won one in 10 games. We've got to get back to playing like we did at the start of the year. Simple, and not beat ourselves. Give ourselves the best chance we can at
