Stars, Fistric await word from NHL

FRISCO -- Stars defenseman Mark Fistric had a phone conference with the NHL, including director of hockey operations (a.k.a. disciplan czar) Colin Campbell to explain what happened in his fight with Eric Nystrom in Wednesday's 4-3 win over Calgary. The league is expected to make a decision today about whether Fistric is suspended.

Fistric was given a match penalty about eight minutes into the game. The Flames scored two goals in the ensuing power play and the Stars played shorthanded on defense the rest of the way.

Fistric took Nystrom's helmet off during the fight and then hit him in the face with it. Stars coach Marc Crawford said Wednesday that he thought it was accidental and his hopeful the league will take that into consideration. (A quick aside: The video makes it look like Fistric had a pretty good grip on the helmet).

We'll let you know as soon as the NHL announces a decision.
