Update: Ian Kinsler to get MRI on Monday

August, 6, 2010
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler still is not doing much in the way of baseball activities until he has another MRI on Monday.

If that shows progress, he could be cleared to start getting in the swing of things.

"I don't need much time after that to get ready to play," Kinsler said.

He's eligible to come off the disabled list in time for Friday's game against Boston. But the club may want him to work out for a few days and get in some rehab games before he returns, so it's unclear if he could come back that soon.

Kinsler said he really hasn't tested the strained left groin yet, so he doesn't know how it might respond.

"We'll know more Monday and we can then come up with a game plan," manager Ron Washington said.

Other injuries:

* C Matt Treanor ran on the field before Friday's game and continues to progress. He's taking swings in the cages off live arms and is hitting flips. He caught a bullpen session in Seattle on Wednesday and said he really pushed things.

"I feel great today, which is good because we had the flight last night," Treanor said. "I'll probably catch another bullpen tomorrow."

Treanor said he hopes to go on a rehab assignment at some point next week. He's eligible to return Sunday, but obviously isn't ready yet. He was pleased with his progress coming back from a sprained right PCL strain.

* Derek Holland is scheduled to start on Saturday for Triple-A Oklahoma City as he continues to rehab from left rotator cuff inflammation and a sore knee. He feels healthy and is trying to build up his pitch count. He struggled in his last start, so it will be interesting to see how he does.
