It will be Japan versus the Philippines in a pair of world title bouts announced for July 16 in Saitama, Japan.
Junior lightweight titlist Takashi Uchiyama (18-0, 15 KOs) of Japan will face southpaw Filipino Michael Farenas (34-3-3, 26 KOs) in the main event. Uchiyama, who will be making his fifth defense, is riding an eight-fight knockout streak, including a highlight-reel 11th-round knockout of interim titlist Jorge Solis in December.
Also on the card, flyweight titlist Sonny Boy Jaro (34-10-5, 24 KOs) of the Philippines will make a mandatory defense against 2004 Japanese Olympian Toshiyuki Igarashi (15-1-1, 10 KOs), a southpaw. Jaro scored a massive upset -- one that could stand as the upset of the year -- when he knocked out Thai legend and long-reigning titlist Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in the sixth round in Thailand on March 2.
