Chris Farina/Top RankManny Pacquiao and President Bill Clinton appeared as guests Wednesday on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."Manny Pacquiao for president of the Philippines?
The pound-for-pound star is already a congressman in his native country, and the notion of an eventual run for president has come up. Pacquiao has not talked about it publicly, although others around him have said it was possible that he could launch a run someday, including Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who has said it many times.
Now you can add former President Bill Clinton to the list of those who believe Pacquiao has a substantial political future in the Philippines, where his wife, Jinkee, also holds office as a vice governor of their province.
On Wednesday night, Clinton appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." He was the guest before Pacquiao made his eighth visit to the show. It has become a tradition for Pacquiao to make a prefight appearance on Kimmel's couch. This time he was there to talk up his rematch with welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley Jr. on April 12 (HBO PPV) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Clinton has previously met Pacquiao, and they also met again backstage before the show. During Clinton's interview, he spoke glowingly of Pacquiao and his political career.
"You're gonna have Manny on here in a few minutes. He's already in the Philippine parliament, and I hope he goes right on up the ladder," Clinton said. "I think he's a great guy, and he's a great role model for the country. He's very strong and honest.”
