Flashy Imam added to May 10 card

Other than heavyweight contender Bermane Stiverne, promoter Don King has very little left in his once vast stable.

But he does have a quality junior welterweight prospect in flashy and powerful 23-year-old Amir Imam of Albany, New York. He has looked good in his appearances on Showtime’s “ShoBox” series and will get more valuable national television exposure when he fights on ESPN on May 10 (8 p.m. ET) on the undercard of the vacant heavyweight title fight between Stiverne and Chris Arreola, who are meeting in a rematch for the belt Vitali Klitschko vacated in December.

Imam (13-0, 12 KOs), who missed making the 2012 U.S. Olympic team when he lost to Errol Spence Jr. in the Olympic trials finals, will take on Miami-based former Cuban amateur standout Yordenis Ugas (15-2, 7 KOs), 27, a 2008 Olympic bronze medalist, in an eight-round bout that will open the telecast.

In 2013, Imam fought six times, scoring knockouts in each bout inside two rounds. In his only fight so far in 2014, he stopped previously undefeated Jared Robinson in the fourth round on Feb. 21.
