Main Events announced its "Solo Boxeo Tecate" card on May 19 in Pharr, Texas (Telefutura), which will be headlined by lightweight prospect Jerry Belmontes (15-0, 5 KOs) against Ramesis Gil (7-3-5, 5 KOs) of the Dominican Republic.
Belmontes, 23, who is from Corpus Christi, Texas, hasn't fought in almost a year. The fight will be his first with Main Events and first since he was released by Top Rank.
"Words can't explain how excited I am to get back in the ring," Belmontes said. "Of course, I was not planning on a 11-month layoff, but I'm glad that its behind me."
Also on the card, former heavyweight title challenger Odlanier Solis (17-1, 12 KOs), a 2004 Olympic gold medalist and Cuban defector, will face Konstantin Airich (23-5-2, 17 KOs), a native of Kazakhstan based in Germany. Solis hasn't fought since suffering a knee injury that led to his first-round knockout loss to heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko in March 2011, and that subsequently required multiple surgeries.
"It feels great to be finally back in action and working on my comeback," Solis said. "The last 12 months have been hell with a lot of setbacks, but now I'm ready to go at it again.”
