Pacquiao, Rios plan exhausting tour
By Dan Rafael
Manny Pacquiao and Brandon Rios will embark on a seven-city tour to promote their Nov. 23 fight.
As grueling as training camp is going to be for Manny Pacquiao and Brandon Rios in advance of their welterweight showdown in Macau, China, the media tour they are about to embark on might be almost as harsh.
In order to promote the Nov. 23 (HBO PPV) bout, Pacquiao, Rios, trainers Freddie Roach and Robert Garcia, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum -- still with awe-inspiring energy in his 80s -- and a full support staff will cover 23,722 miles and seemingly as many times zones during a seven-city tour to three countries on two continents.
The media tour kicks off with a news conference at The Venetian Macao, site of the fight, on Saturday, the same day as Arum's card there headlined by two-time Chinese Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming.
They'll be in Beijing on Monday and Tuesday and in Shanghai on Wednesday. Then they head off to Singapore for an event on Aug. 3 at the Marina Bay Sands Singapore, one of the Venetian's sister properties.
Then comes the long trip back to the United States for an Aug. 5 stop at ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Conn., where the fighters will make a variety of appearances. Then they head to New York for a news conference on Aug. 6 before going to Los Angeles for the final stop on Aug. 8 of what will undoubtedly be an exhausting tour.
