Exciting Segura back in action

Giovani Segura
All-action Giovani Segura returns on April 5 and is angling toward a shot at the flyweight world title.
Former junior flyweight champ Giovani Segura of Mexico, one of boxing's most exciting fighters and one of the most devastating punchers pound for pound, returns to action on April 5 (UniMas) in Tijuana.

Segura (31-3-1, 27 KOs) will take on countryman Felipe Salguero (19-5-1, 14 KOs) in what is supposed to be Segura's final fight before a likely flyweight world title shot against countryman Juan Francisco Estrada (25-2, 18 KOs).

Segura has had one flyweight title shot, getting stopped in the eighth round by Brian Viloria in the Philippines in 2011. Two fights later, Segura lost a decision to countryman Edgar Sosa, a former junior flyweight titlist.

But Segura has won two fights in a row since, including a 12th-round knockout of former titlist Hernan "Tyson" Marquez in a November barnburner that was a strong fight of the year candidate.

Salguero has had two junior flyweight title shots. Two fights ago, in October, he was stopped in the 11th round in the Philippines challenging titlist Johnriel Casimero and in 2012 he lost a decision in the Philippines challenging Donnie Nietes for his version of the 108-pound world title.

Any time Segura is in action, it's worth paying attention.
