Hatton to miss 'The Moment'
By Dan Rafael
LAS VEGAS -- There's only one Ricky Hatton and he will not be at the MGM Grand for the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Marcos Maidana fight this week as planned.
Ricky Hatton lost a memorable 2007 welterweight championship fight to Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Hatton, who lost to Mayweather by 10th-round knockout at the MGM in a memorable 2007 welterweight championship fight, was due to return to work as a commentator for Britain's BoxNation, which is televising Mayweather-Maidana there.
However, Hatton's visa was not in order and he was denied entry into the United States.
"Ricky has been advised that he must apply for a visa for entry into the U.S. as the documents he intended to travel with have been deemed insufficient for entry at this time," attorney Paul Dodds said on Hatton's behalf. "This was a huge surprise to Ricky but, unfortunately, nothing can be done to make the application in time for him to travel this week.
"Ricky has been looking forward to returning to Las Vegas once again, the home of many of his famous boxing occasions, and to working closely with BoxNation as a commentator at this Saturday's event. There has been no indication that Ricky will not be able to travel in the future and I can confirm that Ricky has no criminal convictions of any sort and intends to make the application for a new visa as soon as possible."
