Notes: Moreno on the comeback trail

A few notes from around the boxing world:

• Anselmo Moreno (35-3-1, 12 KOs), the slick southpaw from Panama who held a bantamweight world title from 2008 and defended it 12 times until losing it to Juan Carlos Payano in September, will make his return on March 28 in Sheffield, England. Moreno, 29, who is moving up to junior featherweight, will take on Wales’ Robbie Turley (14-5, 3 KOs) in a scheduled eight-rounder on the undercard of welterweight titlist Kell Brook’s first defense against mandatory challenger Jo Jo Dan at the Motorpoint Arena. Moreno, who has fought in several countries, will be boxing in England for the first time.

• Former junior lightweight titlist Rances Barthelemy (21-0, 12 KOs), who recently gave up his 130-pound crown to move up to lightweight, will next fight on March 26 on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights” in Hialeah, Florida. Barthelemy’s opponent is not set yet. Light heavyweight prospect Ahmed Elbiali (9-0, 9 KOs) is also due to appear. The card will also include the previously announced welterweight fight between Breidis Prescott (27-6, 20 KOs) and Fredrick Lawson (23-0, 20 KOs).

• Two cards have been added to the ESPN2 “Friday Night Fights” schedule. On April 17 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, promoter Lou DiBella’s card will be topped by super middleweight prospect Sergey Derevyanchenko (4-0, 3 KOs), who had a huge amateur career and will move quickly as a pro, facing Elvin Ayala (27-6-1, 12 KOs) in the main event. Junior featherweight Ryan Kielczewski (22-0, 6 KOs) will square off with Danny Aquino (16-2, 10 KOs) in the co-feature. On May 8 at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, promoter Russell Peltz’s card will be headlined by exciting heavyweight Amir Mansour (21-1, 16 KOs) facing Joey Dawejko (14-3-2, 7 KOs).
